Our Global Warming Solutions team helped mobilize the political and public support necessary to win the Clean Power Plan, which The New York Times called the “strongest action ever taken by an American president to tackle climate change.” Now we’re challenging the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal the plan in court, urging our governors and mayors to take the lead to meet the Paris climate reduction goals, and committing more states to reducing power plant pollution, cleaning up our air and combatting climate change.
We haven’t forgotten the original promise of the Clean Water Act: that all of America’s waters should be safe for swimming, fishing and drinking. So we’re urging our governors to get the lead out of the drinking water in our schools and preschools nationwide. And we’re gearing up to stop the Trump administration from weakening the Clean Water Act.
Our vision is an America powered solely by renewable energy. To get there, we're running campaigns that are calling on college campuses, states including California and Massachusetts, and Congress to take concrete steps to reach a goal of 100% renewable power. We're urging cities across the country to commit to more solar power, and defending pro-solar policies from short-sighted attacks. We're also encouraging states on the Atlantic seaboard to invest in offshore wind power. So far, our successful efforts in 25 states have led to an explosive growth in both solar and wind, but this is just a beginning.
What writer Wallace Stegner called America’s “best idea” — setting aside national parks for the benefit of all—has endured for almost 150 years. That’s why our conservation program isn’t just resisting the Trump administration’s efforts to erase protections for Bears Ears, Katahdin Woods and Waters and other national monuments. We’re also standing up for special places from the Arctic to the Grand Canyon, and protecting all our public lands from attempts to sell them off, open them to fracking and mining, or prohibit the designation of more national monuments and wilderness.
